That's an old hat size...

I called a hat shop today to inquire as to whether or not a particular Stetson was available in 7 & 5/8th long oval.

The person who answered told me that long oval was an old hat size and that modern manufactures had switched to round oval hats. She also said that according to her manager, the only way to get a long oval hat was to have one custom made.

I was in a western store recently that had several brands, including some Stetsons, in long oval. I just didn't find a hat that I wanted.

Odd sized I'll concede, but "old" that has been discarded?

Naw, I still see LO hats for sale.

Shape of Your Head - Long Oval
Some heads are more elongated, and in hat parlance are described as "long oval". DelMonico Hatter has the ability to shape any hat to be long oval. Note that it is not necessary to shape a fabric hat or cap to the long oval size. Because caps and fabric hats are softer, and not fixed in their shape, they will naturally mold themselves to a long oval head.

Of course, custom is nearly always the better bet. I'd rather drop ~$300 on a custom than a newly manufactured hat.

I just received a custom hat, and the fit is excellent, but the three month wait is causing me to look for something immediately available. I need something in black.

I hear you. I do the same thing. I kept buying ebay hats in between custom orders coming in. My first custom came last weekend. The 2nd and 3rd should be ready this weekend. Two more hats should be in by Christmas, one a custom and the other a factory pre-order...
