A hat rescued from a costume shop... it once had a brim binding that has been removed. The pin is my addition. Perhaps 1940 or a bit earlier.

I don't think I have shared this one before.....I have at least a few I have not........YET.

Not sure when this is from (would guess 1950's), whether it had a liner (VERY VERY thin fine felt, even for a Borsa so may have had just a tip label, I have at least one other that is like this, only it does have the tip label sewed in)

OR if someone cut the brim down though who would do that?!?!?!? (almost appears so though is was, is 2 1/2" currently and the edge just seems "off").

I have read that the ZENIT is a model advertised for some time.

I do say these non-welted sweats are sooooo comfortable......

I think it probably had a liner........Anyone have a large spare liner????

Stefan!!! What do you make of the tag? Can you decode it?

The hand written label is interesting... perhaps a replacement for the original if the hat was later modified? The logo imprinted label would normally indicate production postwar to the mid 1950s. The color is banana and I agree it is a nice shade.

Like the others said: the collour is banana, the ribbon is Daino (c daino), which is "deer" and the model is Ecosca. No telling why it is handwritten though.

Very nice find, Mike. I am a fan of the older Borsalinos (obviously). The Cecosca is a very attractive model.

I mentioned this Borsalino book in another posting here before without knowing much of its contents. Having done a translation of the Barberis book I did this one as well, just to see if there was anything new of interest to be found.

There isn't. The book isn't exactly clear about who wrote it, but basically it is the same as the "Borsalino" book by Guido Barberis, posted somewhere above, except that it just focuses on the the period when Teresio Usuelli was in charge of the factory (and brand). So it is more or less a copy/paste exercise of the chapters concerning him from the previous book. That being said it does have a lot of pictures that were not in the other book.
Have I found out anything new? No. If you're interested in the full story of Borsalino up until 1983, go for the other book. Is this still worthwhile? Sure.
Shoot me a PM if you're interested in the translation (flawed as it may be).

size 6 1/2 Punti - again on the separate size stamp
brim 5,5 cm; ribbon 4,8 cm; crown 11,0 cm dent/14,5 cm open
The felt is very soft, very easy to mold and you feel like the coming
spring storms could deform it right when you wear it...
The dimensions do match the other gray Gigiasgu I showed the other day,
but it's obviously a completely different model, because that was a Homburg.
Maybe I did not decipher the label correctly - what do you guys think/read?
Otherwise it would be the famous Borsalino roulette with names...

Interesting it's originally from A.F. Bodecker's Stockholm establishment. Originally from Sweden, he learned the hat making trade during the mid-ish 1800s in various countries in Europe during the revolutionary years. Germany and France among others.

He finally ended up in Denmark. I have quite a few hats from his shops in Copenhagen, but none as yet from the Stockholm branch.

Looking forward to seeing more of that Borsalino velour once it arrives.
