The Gilded Age -American Downton Abbey?

Just announced, NBC tv will develop a 19th century NY show with the creator of Downton Abby.

Julian Fellowes, the creator of “Downton Abbey,” this month visited the Mount, in Lenox, Mass., the estate of Edith Wharton, who will surely guide his drama for NBC on the Gilded Age in New York.

It would be a lot easier to be excited if it was for PBS or cable. American broadcast networks have seemingly lost the ability to do intelligent costume drama. Fellowes is certainly a fine choice for the project, but he may not have what it takes to overcome NBC's inevitable notes to make it dumber and spend less!

Let's hope for the best. But it will be a struggle to get anything good out I am sure.
