My new 6X with a little snow on this early country morning. This silverbelly is gonna be the new favorite of mine. It's exactly what I wanted in quality, brand, and color.

I will add this Circa 1950 Resistol "Ten", "Designed by Harry Rolnick", that I found at a flea market last year....not only is it my size but it is in fantastic condition!!! :):) :) This list does not seem to have too many of these "Tens"....not sure they were made for long before they were priced out.....

About a 5 5/8" crown (a full 5" in front as creased), 2 1/2" well done underwelt brim, this hats felt is awesome!!! Note also the wind cord (on a ostensibly $10 hat) AND it is a medium heather grey....I only have 3 or 4 heathered felts (one is a Tranchent "Twenty" from the early 50's made in Austria for Brooks Brothers.). Heathered felts seem to be somewhat scarce for hats though the effect is stunning.

This hat was hard to photograph.........

1960's Resistol Posse 3X for the Jackson County MO Sheriff Patrol. Moss green. I measure 2-7/8 BE x 4-1/2 @ dip. Tag says 3" brim. 3-cord ribbon under leather head strap.

Thanks for the info, Brent! Do you think this is an early 50s hat?

It doesn’t have the stylized “O” in Resistol so I think mid 1950s or even into the 1960s. There is some reference indicating Resistol dropped the Stylized O by 1957, but it doesn’t seem conclusive to me.

I’m not the best guy to guess hat ages. Maybe someone will come along with more definitive information for you.

Brent, thanks for the tip and the pic!

Do you know if it is rare to have a “Designed by Harry Rolnick for …” a specific individual (e.g., FM Craig on my hat)? Searching around I‘ve only been able to find two other instances of these “custom“ individualized hats but I suspect they are more common.

Thanks!

I can’t answer your question, Bill. There are a lot of good folks here who know way more than me so maybe one of them can help?

Resistol XDoubleX Waco (one of the many Open Road clones) in the color Canyon. The size is 7 5/8 long oval. The brim is 2 3/4” and the open crown is approximately 5 5/8 inches. The felt is nice but it arrived with moth damage that wasn’t disclosed by the seller. After a bit of thought I’ve decided to return it. If anyone wants it for $100 plus actual shipping (less than $20 contiguous US) send me a PM.
