Nigel, if you do get one I think you will like it.
They are sturdy hats, made for whatever you plan to put then through!
What I like is that you can wet them and shape them, also they will withstand a rain and come out fine!

I like the looks of that Sunbody fedora. It looks like the perfect straw for taking walks on those hot, sunny days. Of course, that's a few months away now, but I'll be keeping tabs on this thread. Thanks for the info.

You know, if they made something with a narrower brim, I'd be tempted to join the club. 3"+ just don't work for me, even in the sun. [huh]
Hey NB13, my SunBody fedora has the brim cut down to 2 3\4. That was the reason it had to be bound. Of course I like a bound brim so that was fine with me.
I think this will be the next I get..
https://ssl.webwize.com/Sunbody/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=90&CFID=4903857&CFTOKEN=34586274
it has a 5 3\4 open crown, I think that will make for a better shaped crown than the one I have.
All you have to do is get Jimmy to cut the brim to what size you want and get it bound in the color of your choice. I told him I wanted a ribbon like an Open Road and that was what I got.
These hats are easy to shape so I think it would be good to put a diamond crease in the open crown.
Now having said all that Jimmy told me that they are working on getting some fedora bodies with a 2 1\2 brim, I just like mine a little bigger and that was why I went with trimming mine to 2 3\4.

check out this thread for more info on my SunBody fedora. To trim the brim and bind it is $10 extra.

Well, that's interesting, RBH! I'll have to keep that in mind come spring! I want one more straw in my collection, and there is also one I might need to replace mid-season. :cool2:

I like the look of that one, Spencer.

I have this one on order:

https://ssl.webwize.com/Sunbody/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=209

I called on Dec. 23 or 24, and Jimmy told me they were about to close for the holidays but that they'd get on it as soon as they got back to work on 1/5. He's a nice guy to talk to and very accommodating. He said I should have my hat in plenty of time for our little trip to the Dominican Republic at the end of January.

I'll post some better pictures when I get it, but I thought that 3 inch flat brim would make a pretty good sun hat. I also asked him to change to band to a four or five strand horsehair band with no tassels which he agreed to do for no extra money.

Nigel,

The one I bought is here: http://www.jhhatco.com/jh.nsf/product2!open&model=SUBDGUS3

The Gus with 3" brim. The hatband is one I bought years ago. It is a braided band with horsehair tassle. It has a metal clip that prevents the band from opening up and falling off and it is rusted and pitted from the sweat so when ordering a hat band, keep that in mind.

Okay, somebody enlighten me. This is the first I've heard of Sunbody Hats. Is this a company, type of hat, made from a certain material or what? I've followed the links and they do look nice.

Thanks,
rrog

Go to their website and click on the "What's On Sale" link. The teardrop fedora is now $36.00. It is a backorder item but summer is a ways off here in the lower 48.

love the crazy gus

rbh, how does the sizing run on the crazy gus? large? small? also, are yours in the 3.5 or 4 inch brim width? that would be the perfect hat for workin on the sailboat... also, how do you feel they compare to the shady brady offerings?

thanks professor! My Gus has a 3 1\2 brim, size 7 1\2. Mine have fit fine, but be sure to tell them the exact size you wear, in inch's would be good. Also I have wet mine in the pool and then wear it dry, it fits great then.
During the course of the past several years I have had two Shady Bradys, great looking hats, but they dont hold a candle to the SunBodys. As far as standing up to the everyday use the SunBody is fantastic.
