Here are two JC Penney Sportclad Horsehide jackets from the same time, mid-late 40s. The clean one has the original 40s Talon Zipper, the Worn has a replacment Talon.

The Unworn is what you would have found hanging in a JC Penney store c.1947.

Both have a 40s Sportclad label.

The Fronts are probably identical, Square Pockets, breast pocket.

I would say the low side buckle jacket is older, the side gathered is the next generation.

Those are both very cool but, and more importantly...I wish you’d show us where you keep your time machine Terry.

The Way Back Machine? That machine operates on money, lust, and a bit of daring. Available to all on ebay. There is my secret. Some stuff I just want more than others seem to.

by the way, on a personal note, that Unworn jacket would fit you perfectly. No it is not for sale, just saying.

That jacket is in the too scared to wear category. what value it has is in the condition. And I have one to wear and tear!

That jacket does have a place in the development of the Style. not sure what to call it; Civilian?

I just look at this old stuff differently, I find it interesting. You see and own enough you get a good sense of the fashion.

I've plans to get a nice30s display together. I've got a pretty nice collection. I keep telling myself to get it together.

Well you and I both know I had the same thoughts on that unworn sportclad. I hope at this point you know who to call if the mood strikes. Great stuff Terry. Always enjoy seeing a true collector explore the depths. Love the videos too btw. Gives the jackets real life.

Hi Terry, how thick do you think the leather is on the new one? 3oz or less?

Yes, probably around that, like an A-2 weight. Hasn't been worn much.

Beautiful jackets Terry - I'd love a shot at either one of 'em if the time ever comes.
