Vertigo named 'Greatest Film of All Time'

Interestingly, nobody has mentioned Fellini's 8 1/2. I saw this a long time ago, and thought it was more or less trivial. Why would this creature be on the list?

I've found that most of Fellini's films were vastly over rated by the "hip" crowd in the 60's.

I like all those pictures -- I count a good number of them as favorites -- but any all-time top ten that doesn't include Casablanca is easily discounted, if not dismissed.

For my money Vertigo contains a bunch of fantastic ideas but Stewart looks too old and like many other Hitchcock films it's overly theatrical, with an interminable script. Psycho is a far more evolved work with a fraction of the budget and a pacier screenplay.

I wouldn't say that MOST Hitchcock films are overly theatrical. Vertigo is surely the most theatrical of his 50's period. Rear Window isn't this broad. If you watch North by Northwest, made just the next year, its fairly under played.
