I was expecting a narrower brim, since most of the ones (porkpie hats) I see for sale seem to be somewhat stingy. I also like the idea of a porkpie, but haven't tried changing a crease in a hat with a wider brim to one as I tend to think of them with the stingy brim. Unfortunately, at the moment stingy brims don't work too well on me.

Perhaps now, like Mingoslim, I might be inspired to try it with a larger brim!

I posted some old Lester Young shots elsewhere on FL - he was well-associated with porkpies and his were usually on the medium to wide brim side of things (try a Google Image search and you should find some)...I agree I associate porkpie with stingy but as we see with NB13, the wider brim, not worn up all around is a very cool look indeed.

It wasn't what I was expecting to see. I was expecting to see porkpie with a low crown and a stingy brim that was turned up all the way around. You turned my preconception right on its ear, and it looks really, really good! Now I want a nice wide brim porkpie (as long as it will look good on my pumpkin head)!

My expectations were much like Kilroy's. The hat you show us has a wider brim with nice swoop and a beefier crown. I'd say this hat is moving a bit away from "porkpie" and toward a fedora with a telescope crease.
