They went into the 80’s with Vanson and Bates m/c gear. Brooks too.
I actually have the YKK and Talon version on this jacket:

Yep, they go well into 80's for some makers. Apparel Annex used them all the way until they went under and like you said, they were pretty much trademark of Brooks cafe racers. I think it is safe to say that most jackets with them are from the seventies. Rarely earlier.

The Vanson Model J from the early 2000’s does not get enough love, this jacket is a beast. I live in sunny and warm Florida and makes zero sense to own it yet here I am…..

Really great. I unboxed them and my first thought was “the leather is way too thick to move in.”
Then i put them on. Then my next thought was “these are as soft as sweat pants.”

I've got a couple of new leathers coming in next week - giving my Cal some time in the sun before I put it in the closet. Never truly appreciated this style until I got this jacket. Features like side-laces used to be dealbreakers for me but that's no longer the case. Definite keeper. It's the only jacket I've worn for the past 3 weeks
