WHO made Johnny Depps hats for Public Enemies

RBH

This is looking like a great hat movie to me. Thanks to Jake Fink from the movie thread for this great link.

Mr Depp knows how to wear a hat, I am thinking these are some of the best hats I have seen him wear.

Okay, I see thick ribbons and high crowns.

Instead of simply going with something that look passable to modern eyes from a mass producer, these hats look custom or vintage.
Vintage generally is a poor choice for a movie with any action at all, (and Dillinger led a fairly active life... :D ) so I'm guessing custom.

So, custom or otherwise, who provided the "Public Enemy" hats?
If there's anywhere across the web that should be able to uncover that sort of info, I'd think it would be the Fedora Lounge. If it was a custom hatter, that hatter deserves the marketing once the film is released, in my opinion.
If a company provided those hats, they need to be encouraged to continue with vintage styling.

Later...

Well, here's a clue. The costumer is Colleen Atwood, who did "Memoirs of a Geisha", "Sweeney Todd", "Chicago" and was a hatmaker on the set of "Ragtime" in 1981. So, does she make her own hats or is there a trusted hatter she turns to for period felt hats, like "Chicago"?

Even later...

Well, well, well...
This is fairly educational. I have never even heard of this guy, but when googling atwood's hatter, I found this gentleman. If he's legit, he seems the likely candidate for "Public Enemies" hatmaker.

This fellow familiar to anyone?

Boy!..photos of this one are scarce! I'm usually good at finding web photos,
but 'Public Enemies' is still tightly secured I guess. I'm inspired
to search more deeply.

Wow

Depp and Bale in a potential box office smash about 30's era gangsters? Do I sense a further increase in the masses interest in hats? Hmmmm....

Dave Brown did the hats for Last Man Standing - I liked the Willis hat.

He also did the hats for the leads in Road to Perdition.

Someone or a few people here have looked into purchasing from Mr. Brown. Perhaps some have purchased. His hats are pricey.

Yes, another reason for me to be in Wisconsin.(other than Airventure):)

I've got a friend whose '31 Pierce-Arrow will be in this movie.
They are using three locations here. Columbus, Oshkosh, and Milwaukee.

The initial in Columbus is finished. They start Oshkosh in April
Have been told to show up as an extra in the next shoots!!!

I'm sure anyone else in the area who shows up with 'the look', would be used as well.

Will Hollywood call?? lol I doubt it!!

Depp / Dillinger 'Public Enemies' movie | pics of extras in hats

'vwguy', a member at Ask Andy posted the pictures below of extras in hats from the upcoming 'Public Enemies' movie. He graciously gave me his permission to post them here. I thought the hats particularly might be of interest. Remember, these are extras, and likely would have supplied a good bit of their own wardrobe:

They are filiming parts of the "Public Enemies" movie in my area and one of my friends was lucky enough to get a part as an extra, here are some of the pics he took:

He has a non speaking role as one of the "Chicago 8" detectives that helped the FBI track down JD and gets to shoot in four different cities over the course of a month.

Hi,

This is the first I've heard of this movie. Looks like it'll be cool, too. Hopefully it's nothing like 'Bonnie & Clyde', which is so far removed from reality it's pathetic.

I'm currently reading a book of the same title by Bryan Burrough. I wonder if the movie is based on this book? If so, and it follows said book, it'll be a *very* interesting movie.

Later!

Stan

-edit-

I just ran some searches on Google, and the movie is indeed based on the Burrough book. How cool is that? :D
