WONDERFUL VINTAGE "KURLAND" HALF-BELT BARNSTORMER JACKET BY STAR SPORTSWEAR. Made in Lynn, Massachusetts. Size 40. Measurements: Chest: 22 3/4 Sleeve: 25 3/4 (measured straight from shoulder to cuff) Shoulder: 19 1/2 Length (Bottom of collar): 34 1/2 This is absolutely wonderful--and a rare find in this condition! Star Sportswear was founded in Lynn, Mass. in 1918. The company was family-owned until 1968; the "Kurland" label was named after the family name of the father and son owners. Star Sportswear was awarded a military contract to produce A2 jackets in 1942; they subsequently received several contracts to produce naval G1 jackets, with the first of these being awarded in 1950 and the last in 1975. The company closed in the 1990s. This jacket likely dates from the 1970s.... and is in absolutely wonderful condition! Made from "Glov-Tanned" leather that is in excellent condition this jacket is similarly to a barnstormer jwith a large fur collar, a double-breasted front secured with three oversized buttons, and American gauntlet cuffs, this jacket has a pleated back with an attached half-belt. The front features two deep flapped pockets with a flapped ticket pocket on the right-hand side. The main seams are double-stitched for strength. The jacket is lined in faux-mouton fut; this is a surprisingly high quality and very close to the real thing. The sleeves have quilted linings for warmth and ease of wear. The original chain locker loop is present and intact. Apart from a few minor surface blemishes--which might easily buff out--as shown this jacket is in excellent condition. It was either worn very sparingly or else possibly not at all. A very cool, warm, functional vintage jacket this is a bargain at just $85, or offer, boxed, shipped, and insured in the USA.
