hello,
I am just looking to get a start. Straw, fur/felt, felt, paper etc. I am looking for the hat that you don't pay enough attention to, or maybe you have payed too much attention to, the hat that has seen better days, and weather the storms... the hat that I can afford on my lowly summer budget. I am not a man of disposable income right now so when I have I have it , when I don't I don't.
I have been spending too much time lately (past year or two) scouring ebay for hats only to realize after finding a suitable hat that I will never win the last minute bid war. So I figure putting the word out may be a good route.
My head measures an almost perfect 61cm maybe a 62cm for a little room with a paper tape measure, and I am pretty sure that I wear a size 7 1/2". The only hat that I have been able to try on that was of a brand that I see recognized on the forum was an Akubra Boomerang in a 7 1/2" and I think that it fit perfectly. I know that Justin brand straw cowboy hats in 7 1/2 are too small and 7 5/8 are too big.
The hats I look for are,
size: 7 1/2", 61-62cm
brim: at least or as close to 2" as possible, up to 2 3/4". 3" of brim is too much
crown: I am not sure, but have been told that the high crowns of the Justin brand cowboy hats I tried on were too tall for my face.
color: not a big deal, but I think black would not be ideal for this summer
I have three hats (that I have been trying to squeeze my head into) listed in the classifieds here http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?p=1016851#post1016851 and two other forums that if sold would amount to $95, but with no interest here, and low ball offers the other places, I have had to lower prices a fair bit to sell them. I am not sure how much I will have to spend
So if you have one, and won't miss it too much, let me try and have a go.
thanks if you read this whole thing, i may be a long shot but it may pay off
Justin
