I didn't see it mentioned elsewhere, so here is the first look as Leo as J. Edgar in the upcoming flick.

The mystery of where Clint Eastwood’s anticipated J.Edgar will premiere has been solved. After bypassing the Venice/Telluride/Toronto festival scene, the biopic will openen the American Film Institute's annual AFI Fest. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as FBI director J. Edgar Hoover and written by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black, the Warner Bros.-distributed film will debut at a gala on Nov. 3 in advance of its opening in limited theaters on November 9 and a platform release (and awards campaign) after that.

This...should be interesting. Am curious to see what they will cover, how in depth, and at what angle. DiCaprio has done pretty good work as of late in my opinion so I hope he portrayed a challenging character well.

Hi

Leonardo bears more of a resemblance than I thought he did, at least as a younger man. With Clint Eastwood directing, it will be some kind of thoughtful, somewhat brooding, action flick. I'm thinking of Unforgiven, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, and maybe Sudden Impact.

Just my guessing in 2 minutes...

Looks good. Will we be seeing him in a dress, I wonder? ;) I like Dicaprio a lot. He has grown into a fine actor, and he looks fantastic in 40s/50s clothing. Interesting that he has been appearing in quite a few films set in that period, I wodner is that coincidence / typecasting, or is it something he seeks out himself? Looking forward to seeing this.

I too have a growing respect for his work, which has improved since the days he 'looked like a 13-year-old lesbian" (Camille Paglia), and he does seem to favour the period pics, so this would have to interesting with Eastwood at the helm....

Hi Dr. Greg

Um, when you speak of looking like a 13-year old lesbian, are you speaking of Leonardo DiCaprio, J. Edgar Hoover, or Clint Eastwood?

:p

Sorry couldn't help it...

This reminds me of Myrna Loy portraying Billie Burke in The Great Ziegfeld - Great actress, but bad fit. I just don't see the resemblance between Hoover and DiCaprio, young or old. DiCaprio's voice is all wrong aswell.

There must have been a better actor out there, unless this script was earmarked for the yearly DiCaprio picture...

I wonder how much of Hoover's bizarre relationship with trusted good buddy Clyde Tolson will be seen in this movie?

Looks like old J. Edgar is finally going to be taken to task.

A couple of unused taglines:

"America's Secret Police: A Love Story"

"And he was a mama's boy." :D

Must give credit to Leo; impressive despite his eternal youth.

I also notice the continued use of that sickly Saving Private Ryan grey/blue digital coloring.

I am very excited about seeing this. I have always enjoyed films about the criminals, (the mask of Dillinger reminded me a few) but it would be interesting to see it from the other angle. I find myself in many of the "gangster" movies to begin to push for the bad guy. I admit that by the end of the film I tend to wish the bad guys would get away, and I even begin to think of the cops, good guys, whoever as party poopers. (not on purpose, and with guilt afterwards I admit).

Very curious to see the "other side" which judging by the trailer will have its own bad guys as well.

And I also love Eastwood films. :)

Hoover is one of the most fascinating characters in 20th Century history -- he was far more complex in his beliefs, attitudes, and agenda than you'd realize from the cardboard-devil way he's been viewed over the past forty years or so. It'll be interesting to see if the script manages to capture any of that complexity, or if they take the easy way out.

And who's gonna play Walter Winchell?
