I got rid of the few "Florentine Milan" Stetsons I've owned because I found them heavy and didn't like the glossy finish. I felt like I was wearing a plastic bucket on my head, especially in the sun.

I don't own any Stetson Hemps, but have two made by Peters Bros and find them to be lighter and considerably more ventilated.

My experience too. I sold off my Stetsons Dobbs Florentine Milan hats as the finish and lack of breathability turned me off. It reminded me of Shantung. The hemp hats are much more to my liking be they Stetson, Akubra, or Peters Bros. I do like my polypropylene Akubra Country Club (despite its low crown) due to its great venting and complete waterproof qualities.

I really like the pith helmet. I understand that there’s nothing better for beating the heat. I recently saw a video of Les Claypool of Primus wearing what I think is the British version (comes to a point in front and back) in concert and thought to myself that takes a lot of confidence to pull off well, but those who can do it make them look cool as heck.

Yup that sure looks like the British standard

I know I prefer a pith in hot weather. I bought mine as a fun joke but I ended up using them when working outside. when I know I am going to be sweating a lot. I find them a little cooler than other hats and saves my other hat from being sweat through. So they last longer.
As for confidence, I don’t know about that. I think it’s more like wearing Crocs. I don’t give a darn as long as I am comfortable. Besides a few months ago I seen a high school girls, obviously headed to school, at the buss stop wearing Maleficent horns. If that’s acceptable I am sure a sun helmet is fine.
My two cents worth
Johnny

Yep that’s it - Les looks like he’s completely owning the look. Anybody who’s not familiar with him should check him out on youtube. He’s known for wearing some cool hats. He often wears a bowler on stage. He’s a stellar bass player too. Crazy good.

Now what you said about Crocs and not caring as long as you’re comfortable - that’s confidence the way I define it.

Guss Miller / Art Fawcett refurbished Montecristi for services this morning. I always feel kinda cautious wearing this 1800 WPI hat.
