    Period Films and Inaccuraces

There were many gunsmiths that converted percussion pistols to cartridge use. It would involve removing the area that holds the percussion cap and machining it to allow the seating of the metallic cartridge. Also a hinged loading gate would be placed on the frame. I dont believe much would be...

My interest stated as a child with an interest in the Second World War. My maternal grand-parents were both WW2 veterans. Grandpa served in the Solomons, Leyte, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa as a crew member on APA transports and LSTs. My Grandma served as a WAC in Cleveland at Crile Army Hospital...

Grandpa's Military Parka - What is It?

I went and took a look at my parkas. All three are from the Philadelphia Quartermaster's Depot and produced in early 1947. I think the M-1947 name is a collector's title. All three are nomenclatured as "Parka, Overcoat Type". I also believe that this was a USMC specific item. I looked in...

Grandpa's Military Parka - What is It?

Hi, It appears to be a M1947 Parka. These were used heavily in the the first winter of the Korean War. Many photos of the Chosin Resevoir show Marines wearing these. I have three and they are less common than the M1951 fishtail. There should be a web belt around the waist. It would be the...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I watched Zelary, a Czech film set in WW2 period. A young lady with connections to the resistance in Prague is forced to marry a lumber mill worker in a mountain village when her network is compromised and she is endangered by arrest. I have enjoyed the 3-4 Czech films that I have seen.

What are your favorite T.V. theme songs?

The old Tonight Show theme brings me back to struggling to stay awake to see the monologue before being shuffled off to bed. The opening and closing of All In the Family and The Waltons theme are all highly nostalgic for me.
