    Pale Rider

Cheers for all your help, in Europe the only option we have is the odd second hand Malboro duster which doesn't look anything like Mr Russell's as it has a round leather collar and tent like in its cut. Thanks for your response.

    Pale Rider

Does anyone know the make of riders coat that the late great John Russel wore in Pale Rider whilst being the evil sheriff Stockburn ? It looks like a sandy coloured Marlboro style full length coat. I'm aware it's prob just a costume prop but I've always wanted to get one with the great fit he had.

    Fair Isle Sweater (Jumper) Vest

Without arms we call them a Fair isle 'tank top' which to us looks like a vest, which Scots (class as similar to the white underwear under a shirt not a waistcoat).. P.s if buying machine made it won't be authentic and probably won't even be pure wool or Shetland wool, luckily enough I've got...

What advantage does Lochcarron Tartan have over heavy cotton drill?

Bare in mind the tartan if it's made from good heavy duty wool will not only be warmer but will be water repellent with the natural lanolin contained within it's structure. If cotton gets wet it loses all it's heat providing elements, in Scotland on the hills they still say (C.K)cotton kills...

Great coats.. To wear or not to wear that is the question?

Your correct Eddie Bauer commercialized it's use. But it was invented by an Australian by the name of George Finch for a British Expedition up Everest. Apparently even then the party were taking the micky out of Finch for wearing it as he was carrying out experiments on heat retention, but soon...

Great coats.. To wear or not to wear that is the question?

Not to similar to a Neo coat so wouldn't get mistaken for the TCM. These coats tend to be any colour other than black, made of heavy duty wool some are double breasted, some single, and they all vary depending upon the country/military of origin. They tend to end halfway between your ankle and...

Great coats.. To wear or not to wear that is the question?

It appears to be mainly ex forces personnel that get their knickers in a twist over a civilian wearing even the most debadged ex military coat or jacket in the U.K. Which I can understand if it had rank names or medals on it. Without it like mine to me they just look like a plane coat almost...

Great coats.. To wear or not to wear that is the question?

Think it's sadly a way of the modern U.K these day's, sounding like my father but the younger Scots don't seem all that bothered I suppose we are now in a generation where the vast majority of Scots will not even have grandparents who fought in a war. I wear mine to remember my grandfather and...

Great coats.. To wear or not to wear that is the question?

Have a couple of great coats absolutely ideal for terrible Scottish winters, one was my own issued by the RAF ATC that I got to keep as they were doing away with the uniform issue in the 80s /90s. And another is civil defence so non military. Sad thing is of late I've been hesitant to wear them...
