Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows

I kind of liked the first film. Not as a Sherlock Holmes film though - the "mystery" wasn't really that intriguing - but I enjoyed watching it. The trailer for the second film looks awful though. It comes off as a period war film with whimsical crossdressing. I also find it dull that they...

    Pocketwatches

This watch belonged to my girlfriend's grandfather. It's probably from the 40s or 50s, and it keeps near perfect time. The manufacturer is an old Finnish company called Leijona which is still in business, although the quality has (unsuprisingly) gone down from what it once was.

    German & Austrian Hutmachers

Thank you! This hat was originally an import to Finland for a local hat seller.

    German & Austrian Hutmachers

No, in Finland. A lot of German stuff was imported here after the war, apparently.

A 50s Fritz Hückel stingy brim fedora with an awesome full crown and wide ribbon. Absolutely perfect condition. Found it at a thrift shop for 10 euros.

    Akubra Overload

Thanks for the compliments! I just wasn't used to wide brimmed hats, so I took 1cm off all edges (I didn't even out the dimensional brim, even though the front looks very short in that image). I think I could handle a full brim nowadays, as I don't wear exclusively trilbies.

Mixing and matching materials. Any general guidelines or Faux pas??

I think it's about not mixing two different plaids, or two different checks, or two different tweeds. Sounds more logical to me that way.

    I'm 18. It doesn't show though.

Here's a hat I stumbled into the other day in a thrift store. I paid €8 for it. Soft, supple fur felt and leather; undamaged and unmarked - apart from the previous owner's initials JG. It was very crumpled, but I salvaged the shape with steam. The manufacturer is Möckel of Bad Homburg, the...

    Rare and Expensive Books

I have a very strange small book called Demonology; or, the Scripture Doctrine of Devils, by the Rev. Joseph Young, late of Haddington (not the Latter Day Saint of the same name, but rather an obscure Edinburghian scholar). The first and only edition from 1856. There is simply next to no...

    Writers in hats

C.S. Lewis Robert Bloch I want to post one of Sir Terry, too. He's probably my favourite author and he sure does love his hats. Makes me wish I bought my Fed IV in black. Maybe I'll buy a black Deluxe someday...
