I thought I'd share a few things I made for my foray into the 1940s from doing mostly 1840s stuff for living history. I made a green and white seersucker blouse from a vintage pattern and pants from the EvaDress pattern (I also made up the overalls). I tapered the legs too much so I'll fix that...

When I'm in a similar situation, as soon as I get home from work I wash off all my makeup with Burt's Bees Bark and Chamomile face wash, put some neosporin on the spot, and cover it with a band-aid. I put a new band aid on before I go to bed, and this really helps with the flakiness and help...

I've used the Dry Touch from Neutrogena and I didn't like it either. It flakes off of my arms in a weird gluey-powder form when I'm sweating in the car on road trips. I like Aveeno's SPF70 spray sunscreen for the pleasant smell and I use it on my face too. I just skip makeup in the summer...

Biz works great if you want to whiten delicates. I used it on a horribly yellowed 1850s veil and after multiple washings its true ivory color came through. It's really gentle and even got the weird "I've been a funky old box for decades" smell out. Chandra

I just found a place here in Sacramento that caters to retro haircuts and my husband just got a late 1930s-early 1940s haircut. It cost $14+$6 tip, but twenty bucks for someone who can cut hair that looks exactly like the picture he brought in it's a steal...
