I just bought this one...but it has no instructions :( if anybody has this with instructions they could scan to me, that would be fabulous! (sorry for huge picture :eusa_doh:)

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

Thanks so much, I will go out and see if I can find some of that. :) The washing machine did a pretty good job, it got some of the musty smell out, and I didn't notice any fading or discolouration. I have washed other vintage cotton dresses in it and there was no damage. For sturdier vintage...

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

I have a 50s cotton dress, and this is the first time I've had to get a stain out so I really don't know what I'm doing here. On the front of the dress there is a light yellow stain, it's hard to see except in the right lighting. I assume it is just age, but I ran it through the...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Amie, it's possible they mean some sort of grosgrain ribbon to stiffen/strengthen the waistband, if it is on the inside. Although I'm not sure as I have never come across that before, so don't take my word for it.

Everyday Women of the Golden Era

Some family photos of mine: My great-great uncle and his wife, taken around 1946, probably a wedding photo. This is my great-grandmother, it was taken in 1930, when she was 18. I just love this photo of her. My great-great-grandmother and grandfather, along with my...

    How tall are you, Ladies?

I'm 5'1". Generally I like being this height, as I can wear very high heels and still be shorter than many people. However, being that short does not lend itself well to working in the wardrobe dept. of a theater; I always have to ask the male actors (and some female) to bend down so I can...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

:) Thanks, everybody. It's good to have encouragement.

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I was openly laughed at by some girls in class today...I was pretty humiliated. I'm not stupid, I can see them laughing. I guess I should just let it go, as they are not exactly the kind of people who appreciate taste, and all mockery was completely cancelled out as one of my teachers, who won a...

    Dressing vintage in the workplace

I'm still in high school, and the school I attend is a very, for lack of a better term, homogenous one. Everyone has the same "uniform" you described, although the girls at my school wear pounds of makeup, just not vintage-style, obviously. I'm relatively unknown at my school, probably because I...

    wearing vintage or inspired

That is definitely one of the reasons why I wear vintage. I'm not a proponent of consumerism at all. I wear mostly vintage repro that I sew from old patterns, but if I can find real vintage I will wear it.

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

I guess I should have introduced myself quite awhile ago, but I missed this thread. Silly me. Well, I am from Ontario, Canada. I'm only 15, but since I was around 6 years old I can recall having a fascination with historical/vintage fashion, and I still do (I'm here, aren't I?). I've been sewing...

Can you help me date this item??

I found this hat in an antique shop. I'm almost certain it's 50s, but I'd like some confirmation, and I was wondering how exactly you are supposed to wear a hat like this? The pictures aren't great, but the label say "Flah and Co." (I think)

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

This makes me laugh because these girls (so many of them at my school) dress that way to try and look older, but you can always tell they are in high school because only girls that age dress like that (from what I've seen, at least). I don't even dress full-out vintage, just red lipstick and the...

    Halloween costumes!

I think Simplicity sells an Alice in Wonderland pattern based on the dress from the movie, as well as the Queen of Hearts dress, maybe that is what you're looking for? :) (edit: typo!)

How often do you wash your hair? (guys & gals)

I am still in my teens, so my hair and scalp excrete a LOT of oil, which means I wash it about every other day. Any less than that and I look like I just went swimming. When I was a kid I (or my parents) washed it about once a week, so I am hoping I will be able to go back to that in a few years.
