Jeans patch: belt through it?

Random question. Are you supposed to slide your belt through the patch on the back on your blue jeans, when it is not sewn on the sides?

Do you folks do that?
Personally I don't, but I don't know if there is a "correct" way.

Back when I briefly had Lee jeans I did. It was a thick patch, clearly intended to be treated like an additional, wide beltloop. Anything I've had since was stitched down all around. For Lee, it was clearly a branding thing, their equivalent of the Levis tag on the rear pocket. Up to you whether you fall in line with that, of course (or even keep the label in place...).
