Rare slate blue or colonial blue 1940's fedora. 5" crown. Crispy liner, late 1940's. Supple, perfect leather sweat. Perfect felt with remnants of fedora bash. Beautiful cav-edge. Rubbing along reeding is the only minor issue. Paper tag inside band has pre-printed $20.00, typed H640I 71/4 COLONIAL. Last pic shows it next to a grey hat for color comparison.
$315 shipped, Continental U.S. only, PayPal.

I also have a true mint black late 1940's/early 1950's Hobbs Twenty homburg from the same owner (both hats stamped J.A.) - it is $150

What a great colour on that blue felt....damn that it is one size too small for me.

Okay, I will stick it in my fixed price eBay store tomorrow (zero offers, zero attempts to purchase). I have not sold anything here that I can remember, but I love this forum and always go through the formality of offering it here first. I hate giving eBay anything, but as much as it pains me, it's where things sell these day.

Odd, I never had a PM problem here before. I have tweaked a couple of things and even changed my email - we'll see if it works.

The price was changed to $xxx because I do not like the confusion of selling an item in two different places, and I had intended to get these up on ebay last night. Unfortunately, watching the Seahawks lose, going to the dogpark and getting tomatoes sliced and loaded into a dehydrator got me behind. I wonder if anyone else on the planet did all three of those same things yesterday? I also followed a live auction for a very rare and expensive hat yesterday - I will post details in the main forum later.

In any case, I will put prices back in this listing, hoping the contact begins working, and will delay ebay as it really pains me to give ebay even a single nickel.

I am open to offers on either hat (Saks fedora or Dobbs Homburg).

The black homburg is sold. The Blue cav-edge is still available on ebay or you can give me a lower number here and I will listen.

You don't appear to have Private messaging turned on. My PM is working fine now, so feel free to send me an offer.

Thanks for your interest. First of all, no offer is insulting - these hats can be had for next to nothing if you get lucky in the right antique store. We all know it happens. I got this one at a great deal, but on the other hand I am about to take a $600 loss on a pool cue, so it all evens out.

After two Anchor Christmas Ales, I'm too verbose, so I apologize, but here's some additional info: I am dating the hat to the late 1940's (conservatively) because of the less-plasticky, more-crispy liner protector at the top, and the sweatband stitching - all of that is a matter of feel after handling 200 or so pre-1955 hats over the last ten years, but here are a couple more bits of information that I am too lazy to process, but which might shed more light on the hat's vintage. First, the price tag under the sweat, followed by the stamp in the hat "Felt Welt Edge". Followed by a 1940 Dobbs ad advertising the "Felt Welt Edge", curiously for a 'blue quill' fedora that looks quite a bit like this one.
