Hi ho there.

Been gone a while popped in because I have some Xmas money and a perceived need for a black jacket.

I'm looking at this:

It isn't lambskin, but I don't know what the quality of the leather might be like. If anybody has a clue about that, I'd be interested in hearing it. Also, how do these sizes run on Wested jackets?

Thanks.

They'll make it in any leather you want. I think there may be a review of it on filmjackets. That one will probably be a medium weight, soft cowhide, I suspect - 2 to 2.5 oz.Essentially it's fashion jacket but the pattern isn't bad. Ring Wested and get the measurements.

Below are pics of the jacket as worn by Brosnan in the film. I'm considering the Wested version, which isn't a 100% copy but it's close enough. Wested couldn't provide me with measurements but said these are not in-stock jackets which means they make them to order and can make longer sleeves if necessary. I've read the Film Jackets thread but if anyone here has experience with these jackets please let me know.

Here's a good closeup of one of the original movie jackets, although the cuff straps are different than the jacket Brosnan wore, so this might have been a stuntman's jacket. The Wested version is good but needs a thinner leather and a wider belt. I realize the company is amenable to modifications or custom stuff but I don't have the energy to get into it with them, ha ha

Here's two photos from the Bonham's website. The jacket on the left was worn by Brosnan in the movie; the jacket on the right is from the movie and was likely a stuntman's jacket (note the different proportions and how the wrist straps are sewn down so as not to catch on props) and is similar to the one I posted above. Both have belts, which for some reason are not shown in the photos.

Wested are generally "very good for the money". I wouldn't put my Wested up against any of my Aeros, but that would be unfair as a comparison. Wested do a nice jacket you can kick about in and not worry too much about. If you find a model from them that you like and is a good fit, they're worth it. I'm looking at them myself from pov of the Doctor Who / Das Boot coat, getting it in a size where it could be worn instead of a blazer (as opposed to over one). For the full on Winter coat leather I'll eventually buy an Aero barnstormer, but for something to wear the aforementioned way in shoulder season, the Wested is a good punt price to dabble in a style I've not tried much before.

I contacted Wested today (via email) to ask about these coats and got this reply:

Due to the death of the proprietor we have had to take down the website. The new company will be trading as of Monday 6th November, so you will be able to order from the same website address from this date onward.

Crikey, how sad. Everything I had seen suggested Peter was a great guy. Very sad news.

Photo from a French auction site of a Wested coat. It was a 42 size tag so they must have done these in numeric sizes at one point, plus it's got working wrist straps instead of the current sewn-down ones.
