"World at War" Opened My Eyes
While I have now watched Ken Burns' "The War," it can never replace the impression on me that "World at War" did. From the opening music, you are commanded that what you are about to watch is a titanic struggle. I was glad to actually get the soundtrack last year...
Interesting Comparison with the Brabazon...
I think some of the others are closer. The A380 is a big whale and it is going to get beached with stories like this today. [URL="http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071003/france_airbus_saga.html?.v=3"]
"...The preliminary report by the stock market...
Belly Tank,
Thanks for this thread and images! Wow! I love slouch hats with the brim up on the side. I would love to have a new reproduction of a few of these.

Check These Out....
These are my present frames. It is the Lafont "Jury." I had a pair similar before these, but the lenses were a bit smaller and the color a kind of bakelite brownish tan. I loved those, but really love these! I did a quick scan of the web and found they are no longer made...
Definitions?
How is a campaign hat defined? I see the one you always think of, the BSA, Mountie style peaked, but also the more fedora-like hat. Would this hat include the Aussie military bush hat? Certainly, the New Zealander style was the peaked style. I have always wanted the Aussie style...
Together Again
Elaina,
Thanks for the story. As an afficianado of life on the Homefront, I always like to hear these stories, even the tragic ones. Sadly, I am sure there are many stories like this. Many that have passed away silently, I bet. When Ruth passed, somewhere beyond our sight...
Food fight!
Do you know what they wear sometimes on campus now? Pyjamas! No need to get dressed, just go right from the bed to the classroom. You see this mostly on women. Unbelievable!
I work in a university, so I sometimes read the Chronicle of Higher Education online. I found this article this morning and thought it might be good to share in the Lounge. I cannot say I agree with everything the writer talks about.[huh] In fact, I am tempted to write a critique on my blog...
Are you sure it didn't? What do you think caused global warming? The moon you see in the sky is just a Hollywood projected image, like the moon landing themselves! lol
How about how society in general sees this period's style?
Harp's statement was excellent. I think for myself and perhaps many others, this is the attitude. I see the styles, music and culture in an almost utopian like nostaliga. I know this was far from the truth, but in this crazy present...
Thanks so much for the heads up. I am surprised I missed it at B&N. I am glad to see a magazine that examines the Homefront, as that is my favorite aspect of the war to look at. That comes from my late mother growing up in Elkhart, Indiana and hearing her teenage stories about those years.
Ditto here at IU
Colorado State are you? I like Ft.Collins. Anyway, Ms. iz still around a lot. To me it is a neutral, ambiguous signifier. I have had this debate with girlfriends. That and taking the man's last name upon marriage. Also, the MWRs out there are very frustrating to single men...
