    Golden Era Cultural Icons

I don't remember anyone mentioning Popeye. Aside from the obvious, being a sailor, how about his dog? Does anyone remember his dog, the one who could go anywhere? He could climb walls, walk across ceilings, and he didn't bark. He made a sound that became his name and the inspiration to name a...

    What Happened to Florsheim?

In 1964 I had a part time job after school with Model Shoes. At that time a decent pair of mens shoes sold for about 6 dollars, while Florsheims ran a whopping price of 18 dollars (gasp). The only other shoe I've ever owned that even came close to that same quality and craftmanship were Mason...

    Golden Era Cultural Icons

A couple of days ago I heard on NPR that Eddie Fisher was the main threat to Sinatra, so much so that Sinatra attempted suicide by slashing his wrists.

A lot of people also don't realize she was a cartoon spinoff of real life Clara Bow, and was originally a dog, a french poodle. Max Fleischer, the Betty Boop creator, didn't humanize her for a couple of years.

Thank you. There was no message, just a pic of some sort. It worked as you said, just not sure what it was. I'll get the hang of this though. Thanks again.

10 Restaruants & Retailers We Miss

Being new, I don't understand how things work here yet. My profile tells me I've had one visitor and I have one visitor message. When I try to see the message all I see is a small white box with a red X in the center. Any suggestions, anyone?

You're certainly most very welcome, young lady. Your mention brought back some pleasant memories. So it is I that must say "Thank You" to the lady.

Well aren't you sweet. I not only remember the popcorn but also the hot nut bar and when you got new shoes, they would also give you a free comic book.

10 Restaruants & Retailers We Miss

I love your pic. I noticed the shelves with the items neatly arranged in the background. Looks like the old general store. There's a shop like that in the Naval Air Museum in Pennsacola. It brought back a lot of memories. And I don't know if that's really you in the pic, but if it is, you really...

Sorry folks. I don't mean to be irritating but I'm new to this and am just getting my feet wet. It's kind of addicting. I didn't realize I was posting so much. I'll try to practice moderation.

I was in a Burger Chef in Cincinnati in the spring of '69. A tornado hit and knocked a billboard down on my '67 Camaro, but at least I was safe inside the building. Burger Chef and Jeff were my best friends that day. LOL

10 Restaruants & Retailers We Miss

I spent many an hour at Newberrys @ the corner of 5th & Race, in Cincinnati in the 50's. I also miss the lunch counter at FW Woolworths, which is where I had a stockboy job in '64
