The next phase of Indiana Jones worship...

The "Instructables" website has a tutorial for making a 'monkey brain' cake similar to the 'chilled monkey brains' in the Temple of Doom. http://www.instructables.com/id/Monkey-Brain-Cake/ My girlfriend told me she looked into making this cake for my birthday, but the ingredients alone...

Classic 1950's Sci-Fi> Should we redo them today?

There are enough remakes being made as it is. Classics like "Them!" do not deserve to be remade as they will surely be remade poorly. What we need out of Hollywood is more original stories. -Allen

    50's sci fi movies?

"The Blob" was another great movie from this era. -Allen

    50's sci fi movies?

I am also partial to "Forbidden Planet" and "Them!". I think they are great and certainly represent '50's B sci-fi as I think of it. I also like "War of the Worlds" from 1953. It has a lot of great apparel and vehicles in it too. I think what I like best about "Forbidden Planet" and "War...

    I love the Fed IV!!

I've had mine for a few years now and love it but only have one problem. Mine seems to have grown a bead under the sweatband and it really digs into my head leaving a red line across my forehead. It's actually the "plastic" piece the stitching is in. The only remedy I can think of is a piece...

Where do you hang your hat?

That's a pretty nifty chair. I kind of want to make one for myself now. -Allen

    Old Pensacola Gas Station

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Just out of curiosity... What is the appropriate elevation at which one can claim this edelweiss pin? I was under the impression it was just an Alps accomplishment and not a general elevation achievement. Either way it makes me want to go mountain climbing now. -Allen

    A New To Me Find...

Most of the photos I've seen have had the sleeves rolled up also. The tag does read: "incirlik-adana-turkey"... it didn't quite make sense to me when I read it the first time because there is some stitching going through the words. Even if it is a knockoff (I didn't expect it to be a 'real...

    A New To Me Find...

That I just have to show off. I'm not 100% sure what it is, it looks to me like a reproduction bomber jacket of some sort: the reason I picked it up. It's a fairly soft leather with (I think) real wool lining. The body of the jacket fits me perfect, but the sleeves are about 4 inches...

What was the last Serial you watched

An early John Wayne serial: "The Shadow of the Eagle". I enjoyed it and recommend it. -Allen

    A few travelling companions

I like the top one, it has a very functional practicality about it. Pardon a (possibly) dumb question, but what is a bumbershoot? -Allen

    Bush Jackets

I ran across a safari jacket earlier this evening that Mike K. didn't have in his lineup a few pages back. It's over at the 'Gentleman's Emporium'. It's a site that has reproduction Victorian Era clothing for those unfamiliar with it. The jacket itself looks decent. It might not be...

How about that vintage western look

I would have to say that Jimmy Stewart is one of my favorite movie cowboys. I really wish I could find a hat like the one he wore in most of his movies but more specifically "Two Rode Together" and "The Man from Laramie". Out here where I live I think it's especially easy to pull this look...

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Those pocket transits are nice, but they aren't really designed to be your everyday "find your way around" compass. The direct read feature of east and west being reversed still gets me at least once every time I have to use mine for that. Nels, that older brass one you have looks really...

Gentlemen what is the ideal lady for you?

I think that having an ideal or idealizing anything inevitably leads to disappointment. If you only look for/at an ideal you miss the unique aspects that are often better than the ideal. That being said I, too, have an ideal, but it stays an ideal because it is unrealistic in today's world...
