    Yet More Aloofness

I've not had much luck with them so far :)

Yes, kiwilrdg, I agree with you, and I'm sorry if I came over a little strongly. There style of interaction was sitting by tents with jeeps and weapons laid out. I assumed at the time it was to do with the American bods, seeing as their camp was British- even so, I wouldn't expect them to be...

    Would you care to elaborate?

    Yet More Aloofness

Thanks, but the irritating thing is, I had almost identical kit (which was early war officer's SD with puttees, boots and pistol order) to the person telling me I was too amateurish.

    Yet More Aloofness

Hio! I've not really done much posting recently- just been stalking the place :) But I decided I'd turn up at a minor WW2 day, at Berkely (I think?) Hall quite near where I live. I was going to go in mufti, but seeing 'All period clothing welcome!' on the bottom of the leaflet, I dug out my...

Valuable WWII Gun at Police Buy-Back

Wow! That's rather a fun story.

    Who here is a millionaire?

One thing that I always consider when thinking of becoming a millionaire is begging letters, but on reflection I think I'd continue to send them :D

    Clean Jokes

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One asks, 'Does this taste funny to you?'

Protons have mass? I didn't know they were Catholic.

    What's for Dinner?

A steak. A nice one, as well, from Scotland.

    Halloween Costumes

Perhaps I could go as the scariest thing I can think of- somebody wearing a tracksuit :)

Less-than-Informal Dress: How Do You Put it Together?

I think that I'd only wear patterned brogues when out and about casually, because when at home, they can be a bit of an eyesore with a comparitively simple outfit.

Less-than-Informal Dress: How Do You Put it Together?

Well, simpler, less patterny brogues, casual trousers, collared shirt and a jumper or pullover. Perhaps a thin, light tweed or sports coat, and maybe a cravat.

Anyone for a brand new crated Spitfire?

The more worrying thing was, didn't we ship a batch of gas from Mesopotamia to the White Russians in WWI?

Can any modern-made clothes really pass for vintage?

For that amount, I could stroll into Savile Row and get a suit tailored in a vintage cut. I'm not implying that I actually have that much disposable income, though!

Can any modern-made clothes really pass for vintage?

I've had little luck finding vintage clothing, but actually have quite a good wardrobe of modern clothing compiled, that looks quite passable. Brook Taverner make excellent hunting wear and especially casual jackets and blazers, in my opinion, that haven't really change since they first...

    Rifle Firing Position

I've just tried holding my .22 (Yes, I know, but it's the best I can do!) like that, and it's bloody awkward.

    Aloofness in Re-enactment.

Yes, but a Captain in the Signals in the Second World War, in an SOE station in a stately home (who should really be wearing a Service dress uniform, really) had no excuse for having a uniform that had strips hanging off it. Even in battle, a Captain wouldn't look like that, unless he'd recently...

    Aloofness in Re-enactment.

I ran into one particular 'die-hard' who had a Captain's battledress from the Royal Signals, which was actually used in WWII, and was in such an appalling condition that it was tattered and threadbare. I, on the other hand, had a period jacket and cap in good condition which were rare and good...
