    My guess is it's pre-world war two actually. Probably done under a contract or side deal with the US Navy. Just a wild guess. But lighters changed a lot between the wars. That style did see production post-wwi. So...could be from after 45. Just wild guesses. My bet is pre-wwii.

    I'd use an ice cube wrapped inside the cloth. You have to have the right soft cloth. But you could get a hell of a shine off that method. But you still needed elbow grease.

    My grandad made his share. He used sugarcane for some of it. A lot of this stuff was not really good and healthy to drink. A little Scotch now and then is a good thing. Some of the stuff made back then could be a toxic mix of things. You really need to know your source.

    Don't be afraid to let things age a bit. A lot of places tell you to start drinking your beer at a month. That just seems too short a period of time. I think two months is better.
