I've always worn hats, including a few low-end fedoras, but I'm here to find some much nicer hats. My head is generally too big for vintage (7 3/4) so I've mostly been watching the classifieds and starting to look at the work of someone of the talented folks who make customs. I have no doubt...
I've been lurking around here for a while but finally registered last month to buy something in the Classifieds. I've been trying to participate a bit since then, but the wealth of knowledge people have around here leaves me with little to add.
I've always been a "hat guy" but I never knew...
My wife put a stop to my (mostly joking) plan of raising our daughter on the media we grew up with, rather than modern stuff.
This Onion article was the final nail in the coffin for that idea:

It is hard to find such a great deal on a decent 7 3/4 hat. I just can't imagine I would ever have occasion to wear this, no matter how cool I think it is. My wife would probably take away my internet privileges...
But hey, free bump.
I keep going back to the first page of this thread to look at the hat called "Kid Row"
I've just never seen a shape quite like that - it is fantastic! I'm totally enamored with it.
My huge head pretty much keeps me out of vintage hats but these pictures and the Open Crown thread have me getting excited about some of this new Stetson stuff.
I'm an attorney, strictly transactional. The only time I've seen a courtroom since law school was for jury duty. I have no interest in changing this; I love my job.
Generally, I get nothing but compliments about my hats. I've never really gotten a negative reaction from anyone, at least that I've noticed. My wife tells me I have a bit more swagger in my step when I'm wearing a hat.
I got a Stetson Drifter (which I like a lot better than most western hats), a couple of new ties, and a book of fun projects to do with my daughter called "Made by Dad". I'm pretty excited about all of it.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been lurking here for too long without contributing. I finally registered to contact someone in Classifieds - I figure I may as well start posting too.
I'm in an in-house legal office in California and everyone is basically on a first name basis, within the legal office and throughout the rest of the organization. It isn't out of place for the most junior new employee to address attorneys, directors, or anyone else by just their first name...
In case anyone was waiting with bated breath, I did buy the Stetson Norwalk. It is perfect. It is comfortable and in wonderful shape. Soulman packed and shipped it well and I've got no complaints. Class act. A great first transaction for me on these boards... there will be more.
When you talk about "direct" PayPal purchases, I assume you mean not through ebay? I can't PM you (that's what I get for lurking and not posting, I suppose...) but if you want to send me an email at XXXXXX (at) gmail to discuss a direct purchase, I would be interested in talking about it. Let...
I was looking at your Stetson Norwalk but I've never handled a hat with the "luxuro" finish. Is it fur or wool? Any more information would be appreciated.
Sorry for cluttering up your post, I don't have PM access yet.
