    Hawaiian Shirts - Aloha Shirts

Speaking of which, do y'all often or ever wear hats with your Hawaiians? I very frequently wear a Panama.

That's googie as all get-out and I love it. I'm very parshul to the more abstract patterns.

Mike, if you're interested in reading about those cormorants in action, I suggest you pick up Ian Fleming's Bond novel, You Only Live Twice. It's an all-around great read, and a certain cormorant plays a significant role in it.

The Hawaiian shirt/sweater combo is one I've been rocking for many a fall and winter. Just make sure that your sweaters are sedate in order to act as a foil for the florid collars.

I salute those who seek out the holy grails--or tiki mugs, as it were--but of my 41 Alohas, there is only one I'm sure is an original. And that's fine by me. I'm more concerned with the look of the shirt--and the material from which it is made, preferably rayon--than its vintage. If the look of...

Every wardrobe needs 20 of these shirts. ;)

Agreed. My overriding criterion is that the shirt look cool as all get out. If a loud aloha looks that way, so be it, but many of my personal faves are relatively placid.

I have nothing to say about this shirt except that it is off-the-charts cool.

Yeah, I've bought several from Mad Gringo and have been well pleased. I thought they had gone out of business, though, and was pleased that their website is still running.

You know, I really don't give a ruddy toss what the average schmo thinks about my shirt/s. I wear alohas because I like 'em, and because they evoke, for me, a better time.

Until recently I owned a super cool, blue Hawaiian shirt with white and light blue geckos on it. Bought it in St. Kitt's at this joint: http://www.caribellebatikstkitts.com/

Measuring the Brim and the Crown?

Thanks, Doomstein. I've already scoped the Guthrie and will keep it in mind when I'm ready to buy. And it wasn't the Cape May wind that got me, but a rogue wave. Like a bloody fool, I was well out in the surf while wearing my hat when, wham!, a big wave slammed me when I wasn't ready. Bye...

Measuring the Brim and the Crown?

I've done a fair amount of searching and it seems that 4" is the standard height for a Panama these days. So I guess that's what I'll be going with.

Measuring the Brim and the Crown?

I don't think they make it anymore, and I can't remember what Dobbs called it. It's the same hat I'm wearing in my avatar, by the by.

Measuring the Brim and the Crown?

Not really trying to replicate, Scotty. Just looking for a hat that is roughly similar to what I've currently got, but with a less dramatic crown and brim.

Measuring the Brim and the Crown?

Much obliged, 1961. I did most of what you said, and here are the measurements: brim (2 7/8" all the way around); crown (4 1/4" in front, 4 3/4" at apex, 4" in back). The hat has a teardrop crease with a modest pinch. I like the style of hat and will probably stick with something similar...

Measuring the Brim and the Crown?

I've got a Dobbs Panama that has been through the wars, and it's time for a replacement. I'd like to replace this 2007 model with a Panama that has a slightly lower crown and slightly smaller brim. These will be prime criteria. So what is the proper method for measuring the brim and crown so...

s "If you're not impulsive, you'll never own a good hat." Not to hijack, but truer words are rarely spoken (or written). Play it too safe and you'll wind up with a bland brim that does nothing for you.

Would you like the fedora and related hats to become main stream fashion

d Fortunately, I've not seen anything like those in my neck o' the woods. Don't see many fedoras at all, to tell the truth.
