That bug bucket would have been great when I was a kid. We lived at the edge of a small bog; and I begged my parents to let me get a bee-keeper hat, with the netting, for protection from the horse-flies.
Thanks.
Most of the reviewers appeared to be working outdoors, or fishing: making a mess in the office, didn't seem to be a big concern for them. :-)
When I did some research into oilskin, some forums seem to indicate riding-coats and such could stain car-seats in warmer weather. So I wasn't...
My sister seems to agree with the Filson.
I don't mind my head sweating in the hat in the summer: but, if the temperature is over 90 degrees, would the oil/wax coatings in the Tin-cloth start to leak out? If I get to work and set my hat on a desk or cabinet, and it leaves an oil-ring or...
Merry Christmas to anyone celebrating on the Julian calender.
My roomate in college was Russian Orthodox; and they celebrated on January 7. Then the following week, they celebrated "old new year." I imagine, with the long, dark winters of St. Petersburg, they jumped on any opportunity to...
Thanks.
That's good to know. I noticed some sites include inches or cm on their sizing-charts, but knowing the right area will save time looking it up all the time.
Thanks,
I like the idea of the leg straps to keep the coat from flapping too much in the wind. Since I wasn't planning on running in the rain, it sounds like the riding coat I found should work for my needs.
Thanks. That is what most people were having trouble with: they would get soaked while fishing in the rain, then toss the hat in the back window of the car for 2-3 days. I live in an old house: my bedroom doesn't have any furnace vents or anything, so I figure is whould be a safe enough place...
Sorry for jumping onto an old thread.
I believe "slicker" is a generic synonym for rain coat. I tend to thinkof it as being made out of a rubberized material (I.E. the classic Macintosh).
I am currently looking for a rain coat before the spring rains come again (yeah, I'm thinking way...
Hello everyone,
I think I have found two good contenders.
I like the sounds of Tilley's T4. It seems nice and simple, with a large brim in front.

I still like the idea of the Filson Bush hat; even though it is likely to be warmer in July and...
Thank you to everyone who weighed in so far. I'll definitely check out the Tilley TM10 and the Akubra camp draft.
I'll probably skip the Sunbody for now. Maybe in the future, if I decide to expand to a cool-weather hat and a warm-weather hat. But for now, I just want to start with a general...
Thank you ingineer,
Tilley seems to make a lot of hats, and their descriptions aren't very helpful for me. I have been having trouble understanding the difference between their hats. I'll see if I can find this one on their site.
It sounds like less maintenance then the Filson Bush hat, for...
Salutations folks,
I am in the market for a new hat. I have decided to invest in a sturdy rain/sun hat. I am getting confused over the different options. My web-research kept crossing over the fedora lounge, so I decided to sign up for a membership and get some help.
I am legally blind and...
