I have really been enjoying watching Niklas from Vintagebursche: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyoebFUS5vWgpGSUoegGYNA
He is entertaining and informative and speaks great English! Any other fans?
I just inherited my grandfather's 1929 wireless/gramaphone that is a Bruswick Radiola 17 from 1929 in a beautiful walnut cabinet. I love it--have not plugged it in yet although I am told that it is in perfect working order. Any other collectors of these out there? I must buy some new...

Was just in a local thrift shop and found this. In 1969, Raymond Burr had just been on "It Takes a Thief" and was about to go on the Red Skelton Hout TV show. I don't know much about the shirtmaker except that they did a lot of custom work in Hollywood--Burt Reynolds' Machin shirt...
Did anyone catch this a few weeks back? There was a great sketch with Jean Dujardin but the best bit, IMO, was a film noir send up where Zooey (looking the part!) finds herself in a fast-talking wise-cracking film noir--it is really fun! I couldn't find it on Youtube or I would have posted it!
There is a great website that I ran across that has several good posts on cocktails (Moscow Mules, etc.) including today's post on the Savoy Cocktail Book:

Interesting stuff!
Some mornings, on my commute in to work I take surface streets instead of the freeway. Occasionally, if my timing is right, I see a man waiting for a bus on Huntington Drive in South Pasadena wearing a hat. Not just any hat, but beautiful, proper Fedora Lounge quality hats. Today’s panama was...
I just attended a talk by the author of this book--great stories, really interesting and important part of WWII lore:
Buffalo Soldier pens survivor's memoir
Ivan J. Houston served in the U.S. Army's all-Negro 92nd Division, which helped bring an end to World War II in Europe...
I noticed in the current issue of Los Angeles Magazine an article on hats and where to get them in LA. Most of the places they mentioned were for fashion hats, but they did mention Hollywood Hatters and Baron's........

There are counless instances in literature where caracters are closely associated with their headwear (think Sherlock Holmes, for example) but this struck me forcibly when I recently reread one of my favorite books, Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita. In the first few pages, key...
Did anyone happen to catch this? A really remarkable documentary with an excellent book (Angels City Press) to go with it:

My favorite time of year--baseball season overlaps college football. I love the fact that much of the sports merchandise that one can buy is retro in its look--not only team brands but vintage jerseys, caps from Orvis, J. Peterman, etc. Today I will wear my father's 1951 vintage USC hat in...
Sun Valley Serenade and Orchestra Wives--now there is a great pair of films. Watch then both together if you can. Great music--of course--but great clothes also. Not just on the stars like John Payne, but on all the band members. Glenn Miller wears his own clothes in them. Tex Beneke looks...
I recently had my old Bates Trilby steamed and blocked at Baron's in Burbank, CA--they did an amazing job, looks like the day I bought it. Bates offered to do it for free, but you have to send it back to their shop in Jermyn Street and the postage to the U.K. alone would be more than the hat...
