The Optimo is in my view the most tropical of summer hat styles. The Panama Bob Optimo is the best-price-for-quality straw hat around. I don't think he makes the Optimo anymore.
I can't remember what I paid for this hat. It is the medium-fine quality, made in USA, as I recall -- the fino one...
This is a VERY vintage Open Road that had been worn by generations of cowboys, or whatever, and needed a cleaning and new band. Art cleaned it for me, put on a new ribbon, and added a new interior band. He didn't do much with the liner, which is just sort of hanging there. I think this is a hell...
I'm paring down my hats to the ones I wear consistently. Here are two very nice hats looking for a nice home.
(1) Vintage Open Road. This one is missing a tag but it is a little loose on my 7 3/8 head. It may be a 7 1/2. It is in very good condition although the interior band has some spotting...
Three hat Books: Snyder, Stetson Hats & the John B. Stetson Company 1865-1970 (hardcover, as new, $29.95 on Amazon); Campione, Men's Hats (Il Cappello da Uomo) (paper, good used condition, $15.91 on Abebooks); and Harrison, The History of the Hat (ex-library; out of print; $15.82 on Abebooks)...
My original post has met with a collective yawn. I guess I should have let everyone beat me up for listing it at $250, if only to generate some interest. Now $225 plus shipping.
It kills me to give up on a hat when it fits, but I've had this one over two years and I have worn it exactly once...
Here is a high quality OR clone from Faulhaber's Store for Men, Battle Creek Michigan. It's got a union label under the leather band. The printed lining label is faded; it appears to say Beaverbrook. I do seem to recall seeing that name somewhere but my recent internet searches didn't turn up...
The whippet is sold. Thanks to all for their interest.

Very nice Whippet in hard-to-find color and size. Some spots under the front brim (see pics) which I am pretty sure can be removed and are, in any case, not visible when wearing the hat. Nice condition otherwise.
Asking $200 plus...
This is an extremely fine hat - easily the finest I own, and I have several pretty good hats - but I just don't look good in it. It's sitting gathering dust on my shelf and also needs to be shaped a little.
It originally came with a black band. I had Art put a brick band on it.
I paid...
I've got a vintage Italian hat on ebay. It's a very nice hat, but a color and shape that I can't carry-off. It's a steal at the current ebay price of 99 cents, and nobody seems to be watching it...
I have a bunch of hat boxes that have been sitting in my office for several years. They are not worth enough to ship, IMHO. If anyone wants them, they can have them for a cup of coffee, if they'll pick them up from my office. (40th and 6th, NYC).

I have more hats than I can wear and want to free up some shelf space and pay for a new camera purchase. I haven't been paying attention to the forum or the bay for quite some time. Would I be better off posting in the classifieds here, or on ebay? I'm not all that concerned about maximizing my...
This is a 7 1/2 Long Oval Sinatra Style Cavanagh Edge in wonderful condition. The band under the label actually says XLO, although it is not as capacious as the Stetson I just listed.
This hat screams "Quality" and if it fit I wouldn't be selling it even though I don't like 2" brims. 5 1/2"...
I posted this a while back, the guy who said he wanted it never claimed it. This is a pristine, pretty much like new 1940s Brown Royal Stetson Deluxe 7 1/2 Long Oval. Too big for me or I'd never let it go. The photos are picking up a gold tinge that isn't true to color.
Asking $110 plus...
I just received my Akubra Campdraft Silver Belly ordered way back in March, based on recommendations from several on the list, and I cannot overstate what a terrific hat and terrific value it is. It is a solid, gorgeous modern open road type hat that is less than $100 shipped, and it fits me out...
I just saw Orson Welles' Touch of Evil for the first time in a long time, and was struck by how much I liked the hats. (Plus it's a terrific film). I really love soft hats with small ribbons. Has anyone ever had Art make one?

These are nice hats, but they don't fit me and I need the money to buy another VS:

I have several hats ready for sale on eBay. If you want one before I post them, let me know. If you want to make an offer, I'll consider that too. Phil
(1) 7 1/2 50s/60s Brown Stetson Deluxe - Very good condition, with box - Asking $55 shipped CONUS.

I recently won a couple of ebay auctions for hats described as "wool felt". I ignored the description because I figured there was no way the hats were actually wool -- one was a Stetson Royal Deluxe and the other was a Dobbs, both likely late 40's, and both from high-end department stores...
