    Soliciting short story recommendations

I have done my fair share of googling, but the requirements I have don't seem to translate well into search terms, so I turn to the fine cultured folks here for help. :) I imagine many of you here might be able to recommend the kinds of stories I'm looking for... Namely, I'm looking for a short...

    What are you wearing today??

lol I seriously giggled out loud at that! I teach primary and elementary school, but really, some days I feel the need to turn up with accessories just like that! And get some training in martial arts to boot. :p

Please critique this blazer on me!

I think you need a less bland colour, personally. :) I agree with others that it is boxy and I'm not sure having it tailored would help all that much in making it significantly better. Rather than spend more money on altering it, I'd sell it and for the money get something better.

    Scarlett O' Hara's Lipstick

I'm a Lipfinity devotee, for its amazing staying power. I use both parts, then dab a little powder on to make it stand out a bit less. If it gets too dry during the day, I put some clear lip balm over it to freshen it up a little.

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I have no idea! I guess hemming is just making a finished hem, whereas shortening is both making the hem and making the legs shorter? [huh] As for letting the hem down again, could be needed if the trousers shrunk in the wash. Can't think of other reasons at the moment anyway.

    Do you have a crush?

I vote creepy too. I don't want to judge anyone's feelings, but acting on them in such a situation is beyond inappropriate. On topic? I'm a teacher and I suspect one of my students (about the same age as you were in the story above) might have a crush on me. :eusa_doh: Not that I mean to...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I recently shortened a pair of trousers as advised in this tutorial. The tutorial is about taking in jeans and keeping the original hem, but it worked just as well for my purpose, which was to take in a pair of dress pants with cuffs, and doing it the lazy way - keeping the cuffs without having...

    The ones that got away

Both of those are very popular sellers, especially julypoppy's items tend to go very high almost always. Well, too high for me anyway. I guess the secret could be to be on the lookout for items by hobby sellers that do not put as much effort into presentation and promotion, meaning there's less...

What do you do for Living?

That's quite impressive, I've only managed (almost) 3 so far! :) What I like about it is that no day is ever the same, the teenagers keep you on your toes continuously, you cannot become stagnant and stop growing, else you won't quite survive in the classroom!

Clothing, Key Element of Your Lifestyle?

I'm kind of similar, I'm a teacher so I don't make much (it's one of the lowest-paid professions in my country, actually), but out of what I do make, after the daily and monthly necessities like rent, food and cat care, most of the money goes to clothes. Luckily I don't have to answer to...

How many dresses can 1 gal own?

That's the rule I've been trying to adhere to this year, as my closets are way too full already. Not always successful at sticking to it though...

Do you ever think you are going insane?

My first ever vintage purchase (off eBay, where else) was an off-white 70s Gunne Sax'ish maxi prairie dress, except more Victorian-looking with a high neckline, all prim and proper, that could well have been a wedding dress at some point... I have no wedding looming on the horizon, but that's...

I want to impulse-buy that hat, it's too cute! lol How much do you want for it?

    What are you wearing today??

I love those creamy colours. I wish more men were brave enough to wear colours usually not found in typical men's attire. You look adorable!

    Nothing but Seamed Stockings

Lady Day has quite a comprehensive guide on how to put on stockings on her website. Perhaps she has more tricks up her sleeve on getting the seams straight as well.

    Vintage Shoe Sizing Standards

I have no personal experience with shoes from that era, but I am a UK size 3 which should correspond to modern US 5.5 or 6, and I've occasionally come across vintage shoes on eBay that list the size as 4 or 4.5, but going by the given measurements, they would fit me.

    How tall are you, Ladies?

:eusa_doh: And on the first date, no less! I could understand if you'd been married for years and he had an insecure day and asked you to accommodate his feelings a little. Although, I guess in a way it's good when they put up a red flag right away that says, "I'm insecure and controlling, watch...

Can you help me date this item??

With the top part of the coat being so big, it seems like shorter sleeves might look kind of strange there, but of course it's tough to tell without seeing the coat on a person. Also, I don't know how cold it gets where you are, but definitely think whether elbow-length sleeves are a good idea...

    How tall are you, Ladies?

I like my men taller and younger than me, but not exclusively. ;)
