That is a wonderful idea, sheeplady! I will definitely be adding that to my list of maternity options.
My mom used to do that for me & I have seen a few vintage photos of family doing the same.
Thank you so much for all of your advice & ideas. I am very grateful that there is a place like...
That is wonderful! Thank you so much for scanning & sharing this. I will definitely look into making something along those lines.
I have noticed that a lot of the patterns don't look like maternity wear, but were still considered so.
I would love to see the other one as well, whenever you...
I would definitely be interested to see the pattern. I am always looking for inspiration.
"Waiting fashion", I like that. It sounds so much nicer than "a bun in the oven".
I apologize for taking so long to get back to your question. I have begun teaching classes at my local Joann's.
Yes, I would definitely make the maternity adjustable, hopefully a few sizes up.
I too have noticed that it is much more difficult to find flattering vintage styles, as I am plus...
I have several items I am beginning to work on, hopefully within a short time I will have a few of the items up. I hadn't really thought of doing pants for maternity, mainly dresses & separates like that first pattern. I will need to do some mockups to see if pants would be something I would...
If your hair is really short, you could channel Audrey Hepburn, Jean Simmons, or Elizabeth Taylor. During the 50s, they all had some interesting short hairstyles which look like they are fairly simple. I have included a few inspiration photos.
Good luck growing your hair out & have fun with...
Thank you ladies for replying.
I have been thinking about making vintage reproduction maternity wear, but I wanted to gauge whether or not anyone would be interested. I had thought about separates & dresses, but would vintage style trousers be something that would work with maternity...
Hello, I found a few patterns from the 1940s for maternity wear the other day that I thought were so beautiful & stylish, not frumpy or too tight like maternity clothes of today. It got me wondering if women of today would be interested in wearing reproductions of such styles during pregnancy. I...
Idledame, I do believe that the last photo you posted is a 1930s look, the shape seems off for 1940s, IMHO. But all are great examples of sweater sets.
Hello,
I recently got a sweater set that has a very mid 1930s look & it fit very nicely & I got quite a few compliments. I have always heard that 1930s & pear shapes do not mix. Is it possible that mid 1930s styles would work for large pears (I am 40-34-50), as wearing this sweater set has me...
Bumping Thread
I know this thread is a couple of years old, but does anyone have a photos of finished dresses on an actual person, as I would love to see how it looks on a real person instead of a dressform.
Thanks,
Sarah Grace
Have you thought about high-waisted, wide legged trousers, in twills or broadcloth, in different colors than denim? It would be an option that wouldn't be too over the top, but still give you a vintage vibe. Etsy might be a place to find such items.
Good luck with your choices.
I am sorry, I forgot to menton more specifics. It would be for a mid 1930s long sleeve gown. I hadn't planned on whether it would be on the bias or not. I am designing the dress from an idea I have sketched. If measurements would help, I am 40-31-45.
Thank you for your help,
Sarah Grace
I have a question for the ladies who sew. How much yardage in a 60" wide wool would be needed for a floor length evening dress? I am thinking two & a half yards, but I would like to know what some of you who have sewn garments have experienced.
Thank you for your help,
Sarah Grace
Hello, I plan to make an outfit for the upcoming holidays that is from the 1930's. The problem is that my hair is long, about mid-back & I don't want to cut my hair, but I would like to do a style that will suit the dress. Early to mid 30's for the dress. Can anyone help me with ideas, images...
Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to create a mid 1930s (1933-36), without needing to cut my hair? It reaches my mid to lower back, about 22 inches from end to end & I would prefer being able to create such a style, but not cutting my hair, so that I could do 1940s & other era...
Thank you both! The information you provided does help with the questions of age. I will have to go measure them to make sure of the date. The other question still stands, what would kind of value would there be on these if I wanted to sell them?
