I think the black tribly frames your face better than the broad-brim fedora. The problem I perceive with snapped-down broad-brim fedoras, in general, is that they tend to over-shade or hide one's eyes. I believe that what you have stated is the correct etiquette: if there's no place to put the hat, you may leave it on your head. Getting hung up is one thing, but to me, the etiquette is half the reason to wear a hat.- TroubleMan
