I have a few different Akubra hats. One being a Snowy River that was my fathers. The hat is really stuff, very much unlike my Squatter which is soft and pliable. What can I do to soften up the Snowy River without destroying it.

As we have been in the midst of a monsoon here in Michigan, I have been wearing my Akubra. The thing got soaked yesterday and is still drying. I was going to hit it with some fabric waterproofing spray. Anyone think of a reason not to do it?

I bought this hat in Australia 12 years ago. As of let it has a could of holes that have developed in it. I took a picture of it sitting on a lap so that the size and location of the holes/tears are more apparent. Any suggestions on how to repair ?
