It does look a bit strange to me, but it solves the problem, and if you're happy with that is what counts. I'm with gtdean, it gives the hat the look you want while you are wearing it, keep it. Also, as someone else mentioned, very nice job making that crease, it is perfectly done, no matter...
Thanks for the info on the shop. I'm originally from Piqua, OH. I'm not interested in ever moving back "home", but I do go back to visit family every so often. Now in addition to the family rounds, and visiting Cassano's Pizza, I have a couple of hat stops to make. :)
This is a snapshot of the liner in a recent aquisition. I lookd through a number of identification threads, but was not able to match it up. There is no other manufacturer info, and was hoping someone would recognize the logo.
No need to get bent out of shape, my post was meant teasingly. I am aware of the meaning and use of "Old Boy", but regardless of what you mean how you phrase something can make it something else entirely. In addition, you may take into consideration that those who do not automatically assume...
Right up until that last sentence, I was imagining someone in his 80 or 90s. You might save yourself a bit of future trouble if you are a bit more sparing in applying the "old" label. My mother, for one, would definitely take offense, and despite having been born only two years after your "old...
I'm not an always kind of guy. I like variety. I really love the look of a bound edge, but I wouldn't want it on every hat. I have a mode edge Stetson Twenty-Five, for example, that I don't think a bound edge would add anything to the look. Also, to me, it depends with what you plan to wear...
Wow, very nice! I'm impressed with the job you did on the brim edging. The higher crown and the copper band and brim against the more subdued felt are eye catching.
I was thinking of purchasing a straw from http://www.sunbody.com. Check out a thread here in the hat portion of the lounge called "The Sunbody Association". Lots of very pleased comments about Sunbody there, and the prices on their website are in the range you are asking about.
I have a new one to add:
I walked into our kitchen this morning wearing dark blue trousers, and a light blue Oxford dress shirt. I was carrying my a leather sport coat, but already had my recently refurbed Stetson 25(dark brown with a deep blue hatband) on my head. My 14 year old daughter...
My Grandfather's Stetson. My Grandfather died when I was about nine, but I remember it vaguely, brown with a darker brown hat band. My Grandfather was just about my favorite person on the planet at that point. I thought the hat was long gone, but my sister said that when our uncle died a few...
You nailed it, 2 inch brim. Thanks for the info. I love to know the background on things. The history of the style of the hat - what years the style was in production, major changes in the style, etc. For me, that is part of the interest in finding the vintage hats.
The interesting...
No re-blocking or anything CRH, I just went with a tear-drop crease which lowers the profile a bit and makes the top look broader - visually reducing the taper somewhat.
Very nice TH. It is very easy to get addicted to that feeling about which you're talking. I'm itching to buy another hat myself.
Johnny - The Feds have a snap brim that you can wear curled up or down. Which way I snap mine in the back changes day to day depending on what I'm wearing and...
Great hat Wil. I'm thinking of another Fed in that color myself. It is like I keep reading here on the Lounge, once you start buying hats...
I had no trouble dry creasing my Fed IV Deluxe, but in order to get it *just* the way I wanted it, I did have to wet it. I wanted a pretty deep...
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. The really great information I found here made it much less frustrating than I am sure it would have been otherwise, and I had a lot of fun doing it.
