Can you help me date this item??

Crazydaisy - That feedsack suit really reminds me of the the 60's mod tailoring that one of my old school friends was mad keen on. I wonder what it's history is? It's a fabulous suit and has wonderful detailing, and is a real enigma as it could be the result of so many different eras and...

    The ones that got away

LadyD that hat pattern has reduced me to heap! OMG how amazing, and in a bigger size too. Aghhhhh! Was it on Ebay that you saw it as I never see those turn up there.

What is your personal 'No-No' for makeup, hair, & wardrobe?

I never wear dresses with a waistline that is higher than my own because it makes me look like a stump,....... a pregnant stump. (Sadly this eliminates around 99% of all of the 40's print dresses I ever try on) I never wear knickers that haven't been ironed either. Other than that I don't have...

Can you help me date this item??

I'd agree with the other ladies and say that it's most likely to be from the 50's, however, you could easily pass it off with a 30's outfit. Whatever era it's from I'm sick with envy, plaid is one of those things that gives me a fever when I see it I love it that much!! Great purchase!

    Show us your vintage hats!

I agree with Lauren I've seen quite a few from that era with feathers sewn under netting and in that shape with a high domed crown.

    How many Brits are here?

There are quite a few of us ladies here in Hackney, we might live like peasants, but we dress like royalty. :-)

    Marilyn without make up!

Just looking at her photos makes you feel better right away. She was a one off and there will never be anyone like her again, she seems to be lit up from the inside somehow, she just glows.

    Whats in your beauty products

The sea salt one is gorgeous, it has frankincense oil in it and it's my absolute favourite so far. I'm on the rosemary and lavender at the moment and that is gorgeous too. I love it that they source stuff from the UK as much as possible, you know......, doing your bit for Britain......;)

    Whats in your beauty products

I never used to care what was in my beauty products during my 20's but now in my late 30's I've had to remove a number of ingredients due to skin reactions that I now seem to get. I've not used anything with SLS for many years now, I used to think that it was normal for your scalp to burn...

    Bust fitting in sewing

Thanks for the suggestions Kami and LD I think that I will try both, by raising the dart and making it deeper. If I move it up do I still need to angle it towards the bust apex? Making a french dart is also a great idea as I'm guessing that it would lie flatter too? I do have a narrow upper...

    Bust fitting in sewing

I have finally got around to uploading a pic of this for you to see! The shoulders need to be narrowed and other fine tuning but it's the armhole gape that is putting me right off at the moment. The centre front matches up fine too so I'm not sure that another FBA would be the right way to go...

    Bust fitting in sewing

Thanks ladies for your replies. I am using "Fit for real people" at the moment Lareine, but it doesn't seem to have an answer for my particular problem as far as I can see. I agree it is a tremendous book though! I will check out the pattern review site as I hadn't even thought of that so...

    Bust fitting in sewing

I am just wondering how the larger busted ladies here get on with fitting during dressmaking and if you have any tips to share. I've spent the better part of a week struggling to fit the bodice of my pattern (I'm very out of practice and don't have a dress form or anyone around to help my...

    The ones that got away

Who are these people with $450 to spend on a dress that they haven't even tried on? I'd have to know that it fit like an absolute dream before I'd even consider something sooooooo pricey, and then figure out how to sell my vital organs in order to pay for it. Clearly it's not dealers, so...
