It's possible the lapels were cut down during the late '50s or '60s. Those services were offered back then.

Yep - seen it done in all sorts of ways - legs of trousers slimmed down, lapels cut down, etc. I saw a DB from the late 40's not long ago, and the butchery performed on those lapels almost made me cry.

If only men who wanted to be "modern" in the '60s could've seen the storm of bad styling and low quality rolling in the latter half of the 20th century, they might've considered keeping their old suits the way they were.
