Doesn't look like a 1911 hat, though. Do you suppose the original is long gone?

Hard to tell... it looks younger than that. The description becomes suspect pretty quickly when the grammar used lines up with what you find from Pacific Rim - based spammers. "Received attached to it which been sold..."
