Adventurebilt variation

I recently bought one of Fedoras Adventurebilt "Fortune And Glory" fedoras and want to share a couple of pics.
This hat is made from a beautiful beaver fur felt and I love its ability to take any shape that you want to give it. When I received it I loved the hat but although it was a screen accurate Indy hat, it just didn't seem to fit my face. The crown looked too tall for me but everything else looked great. Not being an Indy fanatic I saw this as an opportunity to explore what a fine hat can do when you shape the crown a bit. I did some research online and learned how to use steam and bash a crown and though I had never done this before I gave it a try. The folks commenting on Indygear.com didn't like it but when I paid a visit to Art Fawcett he gave me the thumbs up. Heres some pics for the lounge.

looks swell

I think the crown is a good height for face.
I would work the brim a little to see what you like.
Put it up in back so it is less Indy or bring it up on the side like John Barrymore and others used to do.
Good luck and enjoy.

As always, your obedient servant,
The Wolf

Thanks! This hat is very fun to mold and shape. I never bashed a hat before and this is a very easy one to do! What I couldn't do was see the back of my head. When I had a friend try it on I decided to change the crown back a bit closer to its original shape but keep the height I had. I like it even better this way.

Who cares what others think when you and your spouce have to content with your mug and your lid more then we do.?

I've had my ideal fedora in my mind for the longest time, not it's on my head. getting complements from the group is just the icing.

Beg to differ, but the responses I read at COW were mixed. From how I read the replies, folks were thinking you were attempting to make your Adv.B. into an Indy style, but were mistakenly using a teardrop bash. Other than that, the comments I read were for the most part positive.

I totally agree with Ren too....it's your hat...and what suits YOU is what this is all about. Sometimes what looks good on one person looks silly on another. There are no set rules. Your satisfaction is the bottom line, and from all appearances to me, you hit a homerun!

High regards. Michaelson

I guess you are kind of right Michaelson. I sort of got the sense that deviating from the Indy style was a little too much of a departure for some of the COW folks. This is just an attempt to use the Indy style as a starting point, an influence and then modify it to fit my personal style. I am not trying to replicate a screen accurate style as much as use it as a point of departure. Being as I have never owned a fine Fedora nor shaped a hat before it is a fun project and am enjoying sharing the learning process with the boards. Ultimately my satisfction is the bottom line but it does help to have feedback from others in the process.

I guess the mixed feelings is what I was talking about. I don'tthink I actually upset anyone. Anyway, no offense intended
