To be quite honest ~ I know nothing about Randolph.
I have never been big into westerns, however I plan on
watching one of his films this upcoming Thursday.

I was first introduced to Randolph Scott when he was in Follow the Fleet with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (he was also in the musical Roberta with Astaire/Rogers). A tall, handsome man - he would have been popular in any era.

I also know that he lived with Cary Grant in Malibu.

The western he did with Lee Marvin, Seven Men From Now is one of the most underrated movies of the 1950s. TCM usually airs it, and I always watch it. And by all means, do watch the other westerns he made with director Budd Boetticher. While not on par with the Stewart/Mann and Ford/Wayne westerns, they have gained a lot of respect in recent years, and IMO they deserve it.

Scott is hilarious in My Favorite Wife.

I don't care for him in the two Astaire/Rogers movies he appears in, especially Roberta. He's merely okay in Follow the Fleet.

I see I was beat to the punch on My Favorite Wife. I realized he would have been a good Doc Savage. Who wouldn't want Randolph Scott as a wife?
I'll probably get in trouble for this but I preferred his cowboy movies to John Wayne's. :whistling

Sincerely,
The Wolf

Those two movies were my first intro to Randolph Scott as well. He and Cary Grant will always be my favourite Hollywood couple. ;)

I think if he were a young buck today, Scott would have made an excellent James Bond!

He is a very handsome man, and I look forward to getting
acquainted with his work. I was reading his bio also, and
he just seemed like a real gentleman.

It was talking about how his World War I, wartime experience would
give him training that can be seen in his film career. This being with
the firearms and horsemanship. Something to look at while watching
his films.

So, did anyone besides me watch Seven Men From Now? Still my favorite Scott film. I need to get this on DVD!

I did! Fine film indeed ~ Mr. Scott has a very commanding
presence on the screen and he is very likable in my opinion.
He holds up his scenes with great strength, but never overshadows
the other actors around him. Yep, I really liked Randolph!

The film is so good on so many levels: acting, music, cinematography, etc. and it was ace of John Wayne to hire Gail Russell for this. She was so beautiful in Angel & the Badman. I think that her tragic life offscreen worked well for her performance in Seven Men From Now.

I've never seen a Randolph Scott movie, but I do remember him being regarded with much reverence in Blazing Saddles.

A giant-sized poster for one of Mr. Scott's films adorns the exterior of the downtown Palace Theater here in Fort Worth. This particular film was chosen for, well, obvious reasons. :)

That combination of "commanding" and "likable" is rare today, I think because the culture has changed. We don't expect our take-charge guys to be nice anymore.
