Flash, this just in! CALIFORNIA QUEEN IS FINANCIALLY SUNK!

I'm sure most of us are familiar with the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
Over the years the ship's Art Deco Bar has been a fun place to meet,
hang out in uniform after events, etc.

Last week the company that runs the ship's services (QSDI) filed for
bankruptcy (chapter 11) due to $3.4 million dollars back lease
payments owed to the city of Long Beach. Long Beach owns the ship
and leases it out to QSDI who runs the restaurant, hotel,
maintenance, general staff, etc. It Also appears that QSDI hasn't
been able to pay a lot of people associated with the ship;

(LA Daily News) "With its Tuesday filing, QSDI listed its 20 largest
unsecured creditors, which included debts to attorneys, accountants
and vendors, including a Shafter, Calif., fireworks company that QSDI
owes $8,900."

QSDI has publicly stated that the Queen Mary is open for business as
usual and will remain open. However, anyone considering planning
hotel or event reservations on the ship should be aware that the ship
may close temporarily or indefinitely at any time. Since QSDI has
filed for bankruptcy, anyone who has given them a deposit for hotel
or event reservations could lose that money and have no way of
getting it back.

(LA Daily News) "By filing for bankruptcy protection, QSDI must seek
court approval before it can spend money, even for its day-to-day
operations. The company was in court Friday and won approval to make
four weeks of costs, including operating and maintenance expenses,
and employee paychecks."

Since QSDI basically has to ask permission to operate the ship
everyday and request funds to make their payroll, the ship could
easily close without notice until the bankruptcy dispute is settled,
which could take 10 months to a year.

Long Beach has said that they will not sell or remove the ship.
QSDI's chapter 11 filing will either end in their favor or another
company will take their place running the ship. That may be a
seamless transition or it may result in a temporary closure until
operations changes hands and can resume business as usual.

Let’s pray for the best!

Yes, this sadly throws a wrench in the QM Summit this year, we are planning to go on with the summit no matter what and as of right now we are continuing on as planned. Well, I think this will be a good thing in the end because, my lord is the current staff and worthless group of people. I have never seen a more poorly run operation in my life. A rude staff, poorly maintaining the ship, and on and on. I hope that the company that takes it over will have more sence and knows how to keep people happy.

Yes Josh, I agree. If a new group of people take over the ship, maybe they could restore more of it and keep it in better shape. Maybe ditch that stupid ghost tour! Open the pool and hold real tours through out the ship.

But, maybe a new group of people would do worse things to it in thinking it would be good for biz. You never know what may happen!

Let’s hope for the best!

Root.
