Well Churchill wanted no trials at all. Simply executions (assassinations).

Stalin (along with the Truman) managed to win him around to trials. Thank god they did.

You said it. As impossible as it is to feel sorry for the guy, i would love to have seen him cowering in the dock rather than hanging by his feet.
