"It's a Wonderful Life": Radio-on-stage, Dec. 15, 7 pm CST

We all know that Hollywood stars in the Golden Age would perform adapted-for-radio versions of their movie hits, often on stage. Our local group, NOLA Voice Talent, is once again staging "It's a Wonderful Life" this Dec. 15 at 7 pm CST. See here: http://www.nolavoicetalent.org/iawl-2012

As I understand it, the show will be broadcast locally on 990 AM, and will also be available online. There's a link to the radio station on that page.

Yours truly is doing Uncle Billy, Sam "Hee-Haw!" Wainwright, and two other small roles. Bill Lee, our George Bailey, I've known for many years, and he suggests Stewart's George without copying him. Our Clarence the apprentice angel (director Stephen James) is English, and his original interpretation of the role has to be heard to be believed (and enjoyed!). A chance to live old-time radio in the form of a Christmas classic. What's not to like?

Wish I could hear that. Last year, a local group put on a theatrical production that recreated an old time radio station production of an on air broadcast. Before the show they demonstrated how the Foley sound effects were done. I took the whole family and they enjoyed it but maybe not as much as I did. Any chance it will be streamed or on you tube?

Saw a version of that here in CA a couple years back with a great cast. It was fantastic!

What's the running time of your adaptation? The 1947 Lux Radio Theater version runs at about 55 mins net of intro, commercials, cast interview and coming attractions. The 1949 Screen Director's Playhouse production runs about 28 minutes and suffers mightily by comparison IMHO.

Ours is closer to the 55; I'm reasonably sure that, if you leave out the short act breaks, the show runs a bit over an hour. So it's not a severely condensed version.
