I take one part dewaxed blonde shellac flakes to four parts denatured alcohol (roughly eyeball it at the side of an alcohol bottle) and let it sit overnight to dissolve.
This I brush all-round a hat till it's kind of evenly damp, and let it dry.
If there's not enough desired pop , I repeat.

Borsalino for $12 at a local consignment shop. I was like "what the..." and "you're kidding...".
It is one size too small for me. I'm considering softening the band with lanolin and loading it up on the stretcher.
The hat people on Youtube say you stand a good chance of ending up with a doofy-looking hat when you stretch it out too much. so that worries me a little. But then, the liner is worth twelve bucks, so I'm just going to go ahead and experiment.
