My wife is a 7 1/4 regular oval as well or 22 5/8 inches. 
Actually you really have to put on one of those conformateurs to really get the size and shape down. Art figured out that I am a 7 1/2 extra long oval that way. It is actually easier to find 7 5/8 than that size.
Women's hats are a pain in the neck though. They either have the inch size or small medium or large. Sort of makes it tough to remember but I prefer the inch size over some nondescript S, M or L.

My fiancee" wears a 6 7/8 hat. She has more Montecristi Panama hats than fur felt ones
She can wear any style including newsboy and they all look good on her. .
