Vintage Christmas: 1920's Mahjong sets

The 1920's saw a huge craze for the Chinese game, Mahjong. Sets from that era are very collectable.

This seller, from Texas, has a nice set, with the detailed description "very fine quality. :-\

I agree with your reticence regarding the age of the set. The Chinese are excellent practitioners of adding 'patina' to new stuff and many similar sets can be found on ebay. A recent edition of the tv series 'How it's Made' said that many new sets are made using the old techniques so are often of similar quality. My advice - take it or leave it is to buy a complete set as spares are near impossible to get hold of and if the tiles don't match perfectly it's like playing poker with a marked deck.
