What to Place Ties On?

At the time this thread was started, I have about 15-20 vintage ties. I currently am hanging them on plastic shirt hangers, but this not only makes it harder to access them, but I think the plastic is sharp in places, and can snag the ties a bit.

What do you recommend I hang my ties on, for easier access, and less snagging? I could buy a tie rack, but those are small, and tend to be useless, and overpriced (from previous experience.) Do you think I could make something out of wood (for example, a long dowel, sanded, attached to blocks, which are attached to the wall?)

Your idea is a good one, rs. One of the best ideas I've seen is a curtain rod, the adjustable length type.

I've had good luck buying vintage wall mounted tie racks on ebay. You can get them cheap and they can hold a lot.
