Manfred: Many thanks for your kind words. I am very much enjoying my wooden bird. A big congratulations is in order for your new grandchild! I am very happy for you, and wish your family the very best.

David: Thanks, much appreciated. It is a curiosity that hand carved wildfowl decoys never developed in Europe to the extent they did in North America. I have seen some interesting decoys from Italy and the British Isles, but they are few and far between. Market hunting in North America fell into decline during the Great Depression with passage of the Migratory Bird Conservation Act of 1929, and the Duck Stamp Act of 1934, as well as the loss of waterfowl habitat.

Consequently, waterfowl decoys from this Golden Era, carved by watermen and market hunters, are especially desirable and command some big dollars at auction. Much like the fine art and antiques market in general, however, the impressive prices fetched by some exceptional decoys have come down in recent years and stabilized.

Alan: Thank you, kind Sir!

Scott: My humble thanks for your comments, I appreciate them very much. You are far too kind! I also grew up with the outdoors in California, and fishing was a huge part of my youth as well. Still have my first really nice rod and reel that I saved for it seems forever to acquire. Great to have you posting here, and I look forward to more of your wonderful images.

Great lids to start the week, gentlemen!

Alan: Your castaway lids are nicer than most of our rotation ones!

Mike and David: Nice fleet of Stratoliners. From the angle of your photo, David, the pin looks like a B-17! lol

Jeff: Looking positively aristocratic this morning. I think you have the corner on Lords' Hats.

jbucklin: Always a pleasure to see your Granite VS, and I am not being biased because I have one. ;)

We usually go with "Bombay Cur" on that one, mostly terrier I suppose though[huh]. It's the first time she's seen snow.

LOL... not true, but I appreciate the good review! :)

I hope you are all enjoying a beautiful sunny winter day. I wore my recently acquired Borsalino natalsca to the office. The tall crown and skin tone color will not be the easiest to wear, but you have to love the beautiful hats that Borsalino made in the fifties.

Fantastic hats today guys. Mine is not in the same league of hats today but for today a new to me 3x stetson western. I don't know how old it is but its been out on the range. It's rugged looking with moth bites and all.
